Joint replacement programs cited
We get the recognition—you get the reward
The
Joint Commission is one of the many
organizations and initiatives charged with
accrediting hospitals and health programs. It
is the nation’s oldest and largest standards-
setting and accrediting body in health care.
Best known nationally as the organization that
periodically surveys and evaluates hospitals to ensure
compliance with standards of care specific to the needs
of patients and families, the commission launched a
disease-specific care certification program in 2002.
Today, as a result of intensive efforts led by teams
of orthopedic surgery specialists and hospital
staff members, joint replacement programs at
both Waccamaw Community Hospital (WCH)
and Georgetown Memorial Hospital (GMH) have
successfully passed the rigorous on-site evaluation
process, leading to their recognition as Joint Centers of
Excellence. The NextStep Joint Replacement Programs
at WCH and GMH are the only such programs in
Georgetown and Horry counties to be recognized as
Centers of Excellence by the commission.
For local patients who need hip or knee replacements,
the accomplishments represent a strong and focused
commitment to providing high-quality care.
“In achieving Joint Commission certification,
Georgetown Hospital System’s Waccamaw Community
Hospital and Georgetown Memorial Hospital have
demonstrated a commitment to the highest level of
care for patients with joint related conditions,” says
Jean Range, MS, RN, CPHQ, executive director,
disease-specific care certification at the Commission.
“Certification is a voluntary process, and I
commend Georgetown Hospital System
for successfully undertaking this challenge
to elevate its standard of care and instill
confidence in the communities it serves.”
“By seeking and earning Joint
Commission certification of our NextStep Joint
Replacement Programs at Waccamaw Community
Hospital and Georgetown Memorial Hospital, we
are making a significant investment on a day-to-day
basis from the top down,” says Georgetown Hospital
System CEO Bruce P. Bailey. “Joint Commission
accreditation provides a framework to take our
organization to the next level and helps create a
culture of excellence.”
