A
multimillion dollar investment in the
community is taking shape at Georgetown
Memorial Hospital. From beautifully updated
patient care areas to behind-the-scenes
improvements in infrastructure, a massive
construction project at the community hospital
will bene t the region for years to come.
Months of construction work have resulted in
major upgrades at the hospital. Most noticeable,
perhaps, is a signi cant faceli to the facility’s
exterior. e hospital’s main entrance along Black
River Road has been completely updated—from the
parking lot to the building interior.
“We had the main entrance to the hospital
shut down for almost 12 months, basically
giving an entire faceli to the facility, including
all the parking lots,” says Rod So y, director of
construction management for Georgetown Hospital
System.
Replacing the hospital roof, upgrading windows
and repairing infrastructure such as stormwater
piping and heating and cooling systems have all
been part of the project, So y says. “We are actually
resealing the building, and some parts of this
building date back more than 60 years,” he says.
Always improving
But the exterior and infrastructure improvements
are only one part of the ongoing construction.
Major upgrades are happening within the hospital,
as well. e facility boasts a state-of-the-art cardiac
catheterization lab for performing lifesaving heart
procedures, as well as spacious and comfortable
patient rooms on the 2 East and 2 Parrish nursing
units.
Additional upgrades to patient care areas are
underway, with a new lab and an upgraded labor
and delivery unit to be completed in the coming
months.
And all of that is just phase one of construction.
Over the next year or so, a new main entrance to
the hospital will be constructed on the building’s
east side.
“ e next big project is building the new mall,
thus creating a whole new entrance,” So y says.
“ e new focal point will become what is now the
side of the hospital.”
Ann Waters, MSN, MS, RN, vice president
of operations and administrator of Georgetown
Memorial, says the massive construction project
is proof positive of Georgetown Hospital System’s
Hospital renovations are an
investment
in the Georgetown community
long-term commitment to the people of Georgetown
and surrounding areas. “ e improvements we’re
making are much more than bricks and mortar,”
Waters says. “ is work represents our continuing
investment in the community we’ve proudly served
for more than 60 years.
“As I look back over Georgetown Memorial’s
history, I can’t help but see how intricately our
hospital and the community are linked. It was
the people of Georgetown who built Georgetown
Memorial Hospital, and for more than six decades,
we have built on that foundation.”
Here to stay
So y says he is proud to be part of such a signi cant
construction project. And he emphasizes the
importance of local contractors in getting the work
done well and on time.
“ is has been a great project here, because
we’ve been able to use a lot of local contractors,”
he says. “ at’s important to our hospital system.
We want to be good stewards to Georgetown and
the surrounding areas. Georgetown Memorial
Hospital is here to stay. is is just a huge bene t to
everybody in our community.”
Progress on the exterior of Georgetown Memorial Hospital is visible from Black River Road.
